Hyvä recently announced Hyvä AI Skills at Meet Magento India, and it’s safe to say that here at Develo, we’re pretty excited about what this could mean for teams building Magento with Hyvä.
AI coding assistants are already part of most developers’ day-to-day workflows. Whether it’s sense-checking an approach, scaffolding some boilerplate, or unblocking yourself when you get stuck, tools like Cursor, Claude, and Gemini are becoming hard to ignore. The challenge is that, when it comes to Hyvä projects, these tools don’t always have the right context. They fall back on older Magento patterns, ignore CSP constraints, or suggest frontend approaches that don’t really fit the Hyvä way of building things.
That’s where Hyvä AI Skills come in.
Giving AI a bit more context
Most frustration with AI-generated code doesn’t come from it being completely wrong. More often than not, it’s almost right. It looks fine at first glance; however, when dropped into a real Hyvä project, it becomes clear that it needs reworking, adapting, or replacing altogether.
Hyvä AI Skills aims to reduce that gap by giving AI tools a clearer, Hyvä-specific context to work with. This includes CSP-safe Alpine.js patterns, guidance on how Hyvä UI components are intended to be used, and how Media View Models fit into a modern Hyvä frontend. With that context in place, AI suggestions are far more likely to align with how Hyvä projects are actually built, and developers no longer have to explain Hyvä conventions just to get usable results.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s fewer moments of wondering why a particular suggestion was made in the first place, and less time spent fixing things that should never have been an issue.
A more helpful kind of AI assistance
In practice, Hyvä AI Skills aren’t about automating frontend development, but about making the help developers already get from AI more useful. That might mean scaffolding Hyvä themes or modules more quickly, nudging AI towards CSP-safe interactions, or helping teams maintain more consistent frontend patterns, especially when multiple developers are working in the same codebase.
Used this way, AI removes unnecessary friction from day-to-day development, while leaving the important decisions around architecture, trade-offs, and how a site actually needs to work firmly in human hands.
Our view on AI in Magento development
At Develo, we’re very much in the camp of AI being an aid to developers, not something to be feared or resisted. We see AI as a way to support experienced developers, rather than something that replaces judgement or architectural thinking. Used well, AI is simply another tool under your belt, much like a good IDE, a profiler, or a debugger.
Hyvä AI Skills align nicely with that mindset. They don’t bypass good engineering practices or promise unrealistic gains. Instead, they reinforce the patterns and standards that already make Hyvä such a strong choice for Magento frontends.
Why clients benefit too
Clients will never interact with Hyvä AI Skills directly, but they will feel the effects over time. Cleaner frontend implementations are easier to maintain, less likely to break unexpectedly, and more predictable when changes are made.
In eCommerce, that reliability really matters. It leads to smoother releases, fewer last-minute surprises, and more consistent performance for end users.
A positive step forward
Hyvä AI Skills don’t feel like hype or a magic fix. They feel like a sensible, practical step towards making AI tooling work with modern Magento development, rather than against it.
This is very much an early release, and one that we expect to grow alongside the wider Hyvä community. As teams start using these skills in real day-to-day workflows, it will be interesting to see how future additions are shaped by the patterns and challenges developers run into most often.
